<lj:music>The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: Mr. BoJangles</lj:music>

Stem cell research... Will we and our pets be able to live forever someday? My German Shepherd's name is Shadow. He's been a shadow in and of my thoughts and feelings for many many years now... goin' on 14.

Ever since he was a year old, I've given him a raw meaty rib bone, everyday. On special occasions he gets a leg of cow. Special occasions are when the local butcher throws me a bone when I come shoppin' for Shadow's rib bones. Ain't that just so sweet of her! I truly cherish living in a small enough town that my butcher loves my dog too! And my neighbors always ask about him when they see me in town.

I use to take Shadow with me everywhere I went so the whole town knew me by my dog and my red jeep which Shadow looked so eloquent in. Now my sweet baby Shadow is goin' on his 14th year and each day he struggles to get up and to get down due to spondylosis and old age. Probably my fault for taking him everywhere with me. He jumped up to get in and down to get out... it took its toll on his big 'ol body years later. But when Shadow sees that bone in my hand, all signs of pain have left his big brown eyes as they gleam with content again. He doesn't roll over anymore in jubilee for that bone, but he gives it one heck of a try!

I'm hopeful that my dear friend Shadow will be here with us still, come Spring, so when the snow has melted, together we can smile upon the bone-yard in our backyard.

*Note: Do the bone-yard math... 1 bone every day, lying there for 6 -7 months buried beneath the snow, how big of a bone-yard will we have in our yard this spring? Yeiks again!

I do love my Shadow! I wish we could both be together and live forever someday!
